The 30 Day Travel Sprint
Updated: Oct 16, 2023
Why the 30 day travel sprint? Because traveling by vehicle across the U.S.; if done right, will take much longer than 30 days, and that's just covering the Southwest. Let me back up a minute.
My son and I have taken a road trip across the U.S. several times. Each trip we seem to add another week thinking that will get us farther than the last time and yet, we still only seem to make it to Arizona which is by the way, as I'm writing this entry, our next stop. I'm what you might call a vacation squatter. In my mind, that means staying longer than a day or 2 in one place. I tend to spend 4-5 days in certain areas, especially if their well situated in a state allowing me to travel to other areas using that as my home base. Right now we're at my brother's in Texas and we head on to Arizona tomorrow. Still we planned for 4 weeks and will be spending about 5 days in Arizona. We already spent one week in Oklahoma, one of my very favorite states, then a week here and onward a week to Arizona, slowly making our way back to Florida.
My point to all this as I started by saying, one month simply isn't enough to really enjoy and take in the states you visit. This trip we've visited Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and soon Arizona, possibly Nevada, then New Mexico and back the way we came. Some stays have been short, Memphis overnight, Arkansas overnight, a coffee break in Alabama, and one night in Georgia.
We live in one of the most beautiful countries and I say that having traveled to several others and loving Portugal and Honduras. Take time to somewhat plan out where you're heading, but always, always leave room to follow the road less traveled. Let it take you to those little towns and surprising places you'd otherwise miss. There is beauty all around us, don't miss it by sprinting.
More to come and don't forget, travel can be part of your journey and process to redefine your life.
